Microsoft released Windows98 FINAL version on Monday, May 18, 1998. The final release of Windows 98 is reported as a modified version of 1998.6. This build which now requires a product key before install is meant to be FINAL and has been shipped to OEM's. There were two basic changes between RC5 and FINAL, these are listed below: * On some APM portables, the low battery alarms would not display when the battery was low, instead the portable would go straight to the critical suspend. This change also involved changing the defaults for the low battery suspend. This has been fixed in the RTM version. * It was possible that some TCP/IP packets would not be forwarded by one un-named brand of network router. This again has been fixed in the RTM version. These are at this time the only known problems that needed to be fixed in FINAL before shipping to OEM's.
