活动中心

活动中心是单窗口应用程序，以HTML和Win32 API组合编写，可以让您方便地完成常见任务。

然而，在1999年秋季推出Windows Millennium Beta 1之后，很明显，基础的活动中心技术并不足以在传统的Win32界面中提供所需的HTML支持，所以该应用的计划大幅缩减。

登录屏幕

Neptune的登录屏幕是一个基于HTML和JavaScript的UI。登录屏幕文件可以在logonhta.dll中找到。在此版本上安装Internet Explorer 6通常会导致登录屏幕停止运行，以及发生其他一些问题。

在登录UI的顶部，您可以看到经典的Windows徽标和下面的“欢迎”一词。在页面下方显示所有用户的列表。在左下方是关闭计算机的快捷方式（默认情况下，它将触发休眠）。悬停在其上，同时按住SHIFT会将其更改为重新启动的快捷方式，并按住CTRL将文本更改为“完全关闭计算机”。计算机的名称也会显示在右下角。

用户账户设置

Neptune推出了4种账户类型：

错误报告

Windows Update自动更新客户端

Neptune中的Windows Update Auto Update Client隐藏在C:\WINNT\wuauclt.exe中。

Mars.exe

Microsoft Neptune is what will eventually become Windows 2000 Consumer
Edition (if that is indeed what Microsoft ends up calling it when it
ships).  This is based on Win2k Professional and has a number of new
and different features such as:

- A personal firewall
- Multiple concurrent logins
- Seperate login and network security identifiers
- Accounts are referred to as "identities" now for consumers
- a "keyring" utility to allow keyring enabled apps to use the network SID
- Multicast DNS (mDNS)
- IPX, DLC, NetBEUI and AppleTask protocols have been removed by Microsoft
- Enhanced video performance for Diamond S3 and nVidia NV10 AGP adapters
- Support for new Digital Television standards (ATSC, BDA)

Just to clear up some potential confusion, Neptune is Consumer Win2k,
Millennium is the followup OS to Win98se and has nothing to do with
Win2k at all.  It's based on the 98 kernel and may possibly be released

   ║    one quirky bug in explorer that won't open pages in the        ║

   ║    The original setupreg.hiv file has been replaced so this thing ║
   ║    NEVER expires !!  Originally it was a 444 day trial that reset ║
   ║    itself when you reinstalled.                                   ║
   ║    Only system need to worry about is make sure you have enough   ║
   ║    RAM.  I started off with 64MB of SDRAM and quickly found out   ║
   ║    I needed more.  96MB is bare minimum and 128MB is preferred.   ║
   ║    If I had a laptop, this OS would be on it faster than you      ║
   ║    could say "BOO !".                                             ║

KenOath

   From what I can make of this ISO, it appears to be an original
   un-adulterated leak of Neptune build 5111, & not bootable.

   It also appears to have less files in it than the other ISO of
   it getting around the servers that has had the timebomb removed,
   & the need for a product key removed by editing the Setupp.ini.
   & from what I make of it, the extra files are just bitmap files
   extracted from various setup files.

   Also, what I have found in browsing through this gem, is that it
   uses any retail Windows 98 product key when asked for a key,
   & uses a SetupX.dll from Windows98 as well,
   though the key supplied with this gem seems to be a VLK one.

   The Product Key that came with this is

   Enjoy this gem as saved from KMenzels ftp, just prior to him losing
   the lot from a drive failure on his poor old PII-400 server that
   served us well.
